I got these binoculars as an impulse buy at a dollar store for $5, mainly out of curiosity. I had associated Vivitar with at least acceptible quality, and I thought perhaps these were close-outs for a model once priced higher. When I opened the package, I was amazed at the cheap, thin plastic construction--like a child's toy. Worse yet, I can't believe the stated 5 power (also noted as 4 power in the instruction manual) is even close to 4 or 5 power. It's almost as if I'm looking through clear glass. By comparison, my 60's vintage 7 power binoculars are like extreme zoom lenses, and several times the field of view besides. I even wondered if what I got could be an illegal knock-off claiming the Vivitar brand. But the UPC code on the box comes up as registered to Vivitar. Plus, who would make a $5 knock-off of an $8 item? I can't see any practical use for this product, except maybe as a child's toy. The case with belt loop is perhaps useable in itself for a camera or similar item.
